Our programs
-
Flanbwayan helps immigrant families navigate New York City’s complex public school system during the critical enrollment process. By advocating for students and their comprehensive needs at the time of school placement, we ensure that they have access to the supportive resources they need to thrive.
-
Immigrant high school students are expected to gain English language proficiency while simultaneously passing standardized exams in order to graduate. Students who arrive to school mid-year have even less time to learn. Flanbwayan advocates for the rights of immigrant students as they overcome these difficult obstacles, ensuring their specific needs are met while working to eliminate these barriers to academic success.
-
We lead several enrichment programs where teens can connect to their culture through advocacy and organizing, monthly forums, literacy circles, radio, girl groups, and Haitian cultural dance.
-
Flanbwayan partners with local schools and cultural organizations to strengthen relationships between immigrant communities and schools while advocating for enhanced services. Current partners are: Clara Barton High School; Walt Whitman Middle School; International High School at Prospect Heights
